First Blackcap (male) of the year in my Walkden garden on Thursday, competing with Starlings for some old blue cheese on the bird table and surprisingly, holding its own against six of them. Friday and again today, it was singing its head off and I presume ready to mate on arrival of first female. Heard of oysters having that effect but never rotten blue cheese. (Danish blue, if anybody wants to try it)
