How did the Sparrowhawk get injured? what sex was it?

Great title to a posting and it is what I was given as a job today, it turn out to be a woodcock, them low and behold an hour later back at sale water park picking up a sparrowhawk, both have injuries and will be kept in care until released. I must be top lister for birds picked up what do you reckon
