Another cracking morning, sunny with a light North-westerly. A family party of 3 juv.'s and one adult Whooper Swan was on Blackstone Edge Resr until at least midday. The birds are in a gully on the north side of the resr, and were not visible from the top of the dam when I was there at 09:20 hrs. Alan Nuttall found them (so nuls points pour moi on this occasion). They are best viewed from the pavement next to the A58 on the south side of the resr.
Also 10 Goldeneye on Warland Resr, the highest count here since at least 1995. 14 Twite flew into the Light Hazzles feeding station at 10:10 hours, which is the time two elderly gentlemen normally put down Nyger Seed every Sunday!
Whilst walking back across the moor at Byron Edge, there were 6 Golden Plover at SD968188. The first time I have ever seen birds here in November. Another sign of global warning?
