UU put some crushed cockles down on both islands a few years ago but eventually the weeds grow through them, so every so often they renovate them and presumably replace the geotex membrane underneath. The terns use them for breeding.

Cockle beds ??
Are you trying to confuse some waders into dropping in - thinking a new inland sea has sprung up ?

Some conservation work is scheduled for the islands at Rumworth Lodge on Sunday 7th October. This will include renovations to the cockle beds. There won't be many birds about.
