When technology can keep my feet and hands warm in the winter, when it stops making my eyes water in the wind when looking through bins or a telescope,when it can make coffee when I have forgotten my flask, when it can repel scroats that make my life hell, then I guess I might be as happy as I was when I was a boy. A time when I had no bins...just the observer's book of birds, a bike and a desire to be in the country (my wilderness) where I would sit under bushes ...trees and make do natural hides to watch birds up close ...real close. Those days were fun. We need to change and embrace technology.....that does not mean I have to like it. It does have distinct advantages though.


Now if anyone has been disappointed and burdened with the technology in their canon 600mm lens and MkIII camera I will be more than happy to relieve them of their burden...no charge either way ....? I am widening my letter box for replies.

firstly, the museum article can be found under the reviews on the articles and id issues page! As for technology, i write this post on my new mobile phone which has full internet access (yes i'm surfing the website on it now), a 5 mega pixel camera complete with carl zeiss lens, full mp 3 player and a 2 giga byte memory card to name just a few of its features (it also makes and receives calls too) so hows that for technology! You snooze you loose...technology, gotta love it really

We must come to terms with modern technolgy ,if it was not for Mr McKerchar abilitiy to create this forum we would not be discussing these matters.
And how many have us have relied on birdline and pagers to see birds instead of finding our own.
Just think Mr Woosey how many lists you could store on a hand held pc or whatever they are bloody called.
ian i have developed a little on the reading front, but i admit i cannot find Mr Mckerchar new article on bird skins at the museum..even though it says added on the 27th.
Anyway on the scillies last year the MP3 players were out.. digital cameras with footage of all the birds ..the arguments on the pitch and frequency of the call of the booted warbler.. were interesting if not somewhat lost on me, so with that in mind has anyone ever seen a e-guide???????

Oh my god Paul no, don't do it! Birding with a pocket p c birding field guide, "what's that warbler?", " hey, here you go, punch it in here, wow...a ruppells!"

Not for me pal, scribbling crappy little drawings onto snotty hankies in the rain and hours of 'genning up' before hand will always remain my firm favouites I'm afraid

Has any one got the collins e-guide for a pocket PC. Never seen one or heard if its any good , the book is the birding bible as far as i am concerned, anyway getting some new equipment at work and the e-guide is compatable but is it worth getting one. would appreciate any feedback cheers paulh
