Now 4 chicks, which is what we expected after last year.

Matthew Capper (the RSPB chap i/c of the project) tells me there are now 3 chicks.
They will be ringed with metal rings and red Darvics with a letter and a number, towards the end of the month.

One of last year's city centre young was found dead in the Dovestones area last autumn - hope its siblings have fared better. There wasn't much more than a pile of feathers to identify the species, but the finder (Peter Gilligan) did locate a leg with its BTO ring. If you find a dead bird, always check its legs for rings!

We were getting worried as the birds had gone past their hatch date, but 2-3 chicks emerged today.
Here's the timetable for the RSPB stall and DVD screen (for viewing if not at Exchange Square or if there is another news item on the big screen:
Wed, Fri, Sat and Sun 11am - 6pm Exchange Square (where the big screen is)
Tues, Thurs - at one of the following venues: Albert Square, Museum of Science and Industry or Exchange Square

At some point towards the end of May, the chicks will be ringed with both metal and red Darvic rings, as we did last year.
Still haven't been able to get a dowload address from the BBC webpage but have mentioned it to the technician today!
I expect they will be on the late news bulletin on BBC1 at 2230hrs tonight, as well.

The Peregrines feature on page 3 of tonight's Manchester Evening News.. they will be shown on the big screen until the 17th June and the RSPB staff will be in Exchange Square between 11am and 6pm daily.

Might go and check it out one lunch hour

Big screen. I don't expect they will be doing talks, just a manned stall. When there is a news item on the screen meaning the Peregrines can't be shown, I believe they will have a DVD player.

Because of security considerations affecting the building where they nest, it is not allowed to disclose the name of the building. Anyway, you can't see them from below.

We have just received details of one of the Peregrine chicks from last year from the city centre, which was found dead (leg only) at Dovestones in late September. It was a female. The birds are sitting again, and if it's the same as last year, the eggs should hatch at the begining of May or even earlier. The BBC big screen in the Exchange Square will have live coverage of the nest from 9th May on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and there will be a RSPB staffed stand there on those days. It's not clear yet whether the BBC will have a downloadable webcam from their site.
