I always see Marsh Tit around the feeders or outside the front of the visitor centre on the lane. It's always worth looking at the smaller birds, as there are Hawfinch at Woodwell which is just down the road - I'm not sure if they have been recorded on the reserve though.
Bearded Tits should be pretty active this time of year - down the causeway, or near the Griesdale Hide
On a quiet summer evening it is alledged you can see Otter from the Public Hide but I never have :(

Hi Jake Get there early if you can , it opens at 9.30 am . The Marsh Harriers have returned back from their winter hols and can be seen really close up flying around the hides . Up to 25 Avocets can be seen at the EM hide nearby. Also look out for the Red Deer in the reedbeds as they are supposed to be the biggest Red deer in Britain. Plenty of nuthatches , treecreepers and water rails. Go on Jim Shepherds Leighton moss avocets 2007 website for an update. I have been visiting the moss since 1970 and even going 3-4 times a year I still enjoy birdwatching there and walking around Silverdale.
