Hi Martin most of the swallows will have left for warmer climes, but there will still be a few hanging on, i would think the next week possibly two will be the last of them for this year.

A quick round at 2pm with a nice view of a shoveler duck at wader point with a willow warbler nearby and a 1st winter stonechat male at the track gate (not the main gates) of old hall farm. Lots of birds on the reservoir but most of these are coots and tufted ducks, several grebes, black headed gulls, 2 lesser black backed gulls and a few others.

I went back for a second visit a few hours after Brian yesterday (Fri) and immediately hit on the two black necked grebes, showing really well in the sunshine. Also a single shoveler, two very showy sedge warblers and lots of dragonflies -- mainly common darters but also two or three migrant hawkers.
Well done Rick. I knew I should have gone to SpecSavers. I thought I had scanned the masses of coots very carefully, but failed to detect any black necked grebes. I'll give it another try tomorrow, by which time they will probably have flown!!
