A perfect morning for birding. Bright blue skies and a nice frost to bring the birds out to play.
Old Hall Farm My first Redwings (10) of the Autumn were found, which was a bonus for the second of my Winter Thrsh surveys. 2 Snipe overhead were a fantastic tick for me. I've been waiting for them to turn up for some time. 15 Reed Buntings in and around the maize. 10 Tree Sparrows with lots more heard in the hedges. 1 Grey Heron 3 Mallards 10 Greenfinch 1 Common Buzzard 45 Woodpigeon 50+ Carrion crow in the trees near the farm house.
Old Hall Lane: 12 Long taield Tits 10 4 Blackbirds 30 Lapwings 29 Black headed Gulls 1 Jay Plus lots of the usuals too.

The Church Lane flood is back! Not surprising really after the last few days weather. I stopped by on my way home from work, but nothing of real interest this afternoon. 6-8 Pied Wagtails, 2 Greylags and a huge herd of Canada Geese promenading up and down Woodford's Windermere.

There seems to have been a rise in Blackbird numbers. Having not seen many at all recently, there were a group of 10 in the trees around the parking area. 32 Greenfinch in a single flock 9 Goldfinch 2 Meadow Pipits that were getting harassed by the Pied Wagtails 19 Pied Wagtails.

Bike riders picknicking in the field, dog walkers out in force, cricket match underway, dog sat in the middle of the 'puddle'. In other words disturbance at its maximum. Despite this:

My first visit since the grass was cut! Last time it must have been over a foot high, nice to see it back to normal!

Old Hall Farm: Highlight was a female Whitethroat. I think I only manage 1 or 2 a year here, and this was my first for 2012. 7 Pied Wagtails 1 Common Buzzard 3 juvenile Blackbirds together 25 Goldfinch, inclding lots of juveniles, feeding on the many thistles 1 juvenile Robin 6 Tree Sparrows seen, with more heard in the hedgerows.

Now that the hay bails have been taken away..
Of interest was a decent number of Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 14 in total.
Plus a large number of corvids and a Buzzard cruising at height.
Church Lane:
Grass being bailed and removed, so nothing but corvids at the moment.
Old Hall Farm:
2 very active and noisy Common Buzzards
1 Kestrel
1 Grey Heron flushed close to the green bridge
5 Mallards also on the river
6 Swallows
3 squadrons of Lapwings heading North with a total of 93 birds.
Just a few Tree Sparrows
5 Goldfinches (who have had their Thistles cut to the ground)
24 Lapwings on the runway
No sign of Marsh Harrier
Surrounding grass now mowed.
Absolutely no birds on or around the remaining puddle of water.

At least another 40 around the fields nearby.
Plenty of Goldfinches and Pied Wagtailsd once again.

Highlight was a female Whitethroat. I think I only manage 1 or 2 a year here, and this was my first for 2012.
