Peregrine just flown over top end of Adair Street and Great Ancoats Street, (not far from Argos for those who are unfamiliar with the area). Didn't appear to be that big so I'm assuming its a male, you know it's a Peregrine but very hard to determine sex or age status when you're driving. Cheers Rob

I saw an adult on a high rise at 12.10pm and short while later it took off. 30 mins later I heard a peregrine calling close by. I couldn't locate any bird from where I heard the calling but later saw a juvenile on another high rise. It later shot off at speed with some purpose. I just hope the bird is able to catch its own prey.
Paul.
The Peregrines can often be seen on the town hall spire just below the gold globe at the top. Occasionally they will perch on the letters of the Arndale centre or of the CIS building. It is not wise to mention other buildings on a public forum.
If you are in Manchester when the sun has gone down then you may find Pied Wagtails roosting in St Ann's Square or Albert Sq. If they roost in Albert Sq keep an eye open for a Sparrowhawk which will sometimes perch in a Common Plane tree situated on Lloyd Street side of the Sq. It will simply wait for the birds to come in and then grab one. Other times it will circle buildings at eaves level and catch birds unaware.

On an occasional visit to Manchester office today - walking back along Deansgate etc to the car - looking around on the chance of seeing one of the peregrines. This is what I saw...
One of the peregrines was high up on the cathedral tower, don't think it was a juvenile. After a few minutes it did a "circuit" and landed elsewhere on the tower. Did this a few times and then flew further off onto a tower/chimney near Victoria Station. I carried on walking but stopped when it took off again and flew across above me. Then I saw another peregrine chasing a bird, the first peregrine joined in and also had a go at the bird. By now I realised it wasn't a pigeon or a starling being chased - then I realised it was a snipe! It landed (or was forced down) on the little bit of greenery by the cathedral, the peregrines flew off. I managed to get quite close to the snipe (10-15m?) which then took off, flew along the river northwards and under the bridges - partly because one of the peregrines was immediately (but unsuccessfully) after it again.
All in all, quite exciting and a nice complement to the regular views of peregrines that I'm getting whenever I work in Rochdale.

Thanks for your reply, to tell you the truth when I first seen this bird I instantly thought it was a kestrel which I often see hovering about close to where I live. My knowledge of these types of birds of prey isn't great. But I was quite shocked at how close this bird was to me and there was numerous pigeons around at the time aswell. After seeing it I researched and everyone was saying about these falcons in manchester. The bird I seen was very large and had bright yellow feet and beak so I am not sure.
Also thanks tanmay I may attend this as this sighting has really intrigued me. Thanks James

James , welcome to the forum
Unfortunately you give no description of the bird you saw. Whilst I would not rule out the possibility of your seeing a Peregrine Falcon I think it is more likely to be a Kestrel. The behaviour you have described is not typical for Peregrine Falcons but it is typical for our urban Kestrels which actively fly very low over the streets of Manchester seeking out discarded takeaways especially around the area you have indicated. I have also seen them doing the same near the town hall and Chinatown. There is even a small possibility of the bird being a Common Buzzard which I have in the past picked up in the Northern Quarter and found to be starving.
I don't think that Kebabs containing salt and other additives is good for the diet of either Kestrels, Common Buzzards or Peregrines.
Below is an article published in the Evening News a few years ago which may be of interest to you.

Hi James, the RSPB have a marquee usually in Exchange Square (sometimes in St Ann's or Albert) from 11am-6pm and they can tell you all about the peregrines (and usually point them out for you if they are showing) and the work done to protect them in the city centre. Late post for Tuesday 9th July approx 11.45am
Whilst delivering to Victoria Station I could hear Falcon cry. 3 Peregrinne's flying round between the Cathedral and Victoria Station and all 3 suddenly broke into chase mode for a Pigeon. It headed back towards the Premier Inn with all 3 closing in, but as it approached the Premier Inn and the Rennaisance Hotel, 1 of the Peregrinne's dropped down under the Pigeon for an upward strike but a last second manoeuvre by the Pigeon saw it evade all 3 birds and it landed untouched on a Premier Inn ledge.
"I'm assuming" that these 3 birds were the 3 young, due to the noisy bird cry and the inexperience of 3 birds allowing 1 Pigeon to slip the net. Obviously I'm aware that Pigeons can and quite often do outfly and outwit even an adult Peregrinne in a 1 on 1 out and out chase which is why Peregrinne's adopt the stoop and upward strike to fool the prey when they can't outfly it, so I could still be wrong in saying all 3 birds were the young.
