After finishing work, i had a quick look at 5pm for the reported little egret and unfortunately but not unexpected, it was not seen. Also to note was the large gulls peaked at 168, most of them lesser black-backed with a few herring gulls and 1 great black-backed gull was also amongst them. There were similar large numbers of black headed gulls with one common at the far end near the boat house. At least 1 goldeneye and then 1 kestrel was seen on my way home with an Immature grey heron by the canal.

Egret was first seen by Paul and I(after info from Dennis Atherton) amongst the cattle in field behind farm as we got closer it flew and Paul's flight photo's showed all black legs but size was difficult to judge, hence our thoughts about Great White. The bird landed on wader point and was clearly a Little Egret with muddy feet!. It then flew back into the field amongst the cattle and was still there when we left at 2.35 p.m. Elton year list now 95. Cheers Ian

I have submitted it on BirdTrack. Totally given up on MapMate. If they want us to use something like that it needs to be updated to something a bit more modern - and that works. These days, you shouldn't have to install software and then do synchs and uploads.
I have used MapMate for almost six months, and any problems I had were due to my inexperience with the system. I have had excellent support from Steve Atkins, and like the fact that I can submit everything, rather than have to decide which records were most important, as was the case with the Excel spreadsheet. This has meant that I can submit records weekly, rather than working months in arrears. It also facilitates my entries into the comments field, as they are fresh in my mind, which helps to qualify and clarify the record. I also like the way I can then analyse my own sightings. It may not suit everyone, and I would describe my computer skills as "middling", but it works for me. I realize this isn't an Elton sighting, but thought I'd give my two penn'orth.
