Late afternoon visit...
-Lesser Whitethroat heard along the driveway between sailing club and little white bridge as you drive in (Had a walk back after parking the car but couldn't locate it) -Sand Martin in big numbers - all over reservoir and the fields below pump house -Common Swift - at least 200 -Swallow - around 50 -House Martin - only managed 2 !!! -Common Tern - 2 -Lesser Black-backed Gulls - 2 -few Black-headed Gulls around -Whitethroat - 1 near where feeders were (another one heard around near Capsticks) -Sedge Warbler 1 near Capsticks (3 or 4 heard at least) -Blackcap - heard only -Garden Warbler - heard firstly then appeared briefly, disappeared again and started singing -few Goldfinch -plenty of House Sparrow around -Great Crested Grebe - 1 -Oystercatcher - heard only Plus usuals

Not much about but the weather Is perfect for a swim, (or so seems those from the boat club house anyway,- brave souls). Only highlight was a male whinchat found on the fence running through the field in front of Old Hall farm at 9am. There was also good numbers of house martins in the same area.

2 gadawll, 1 whimbrel (short staying and calling as he flew around), 1 Mediterranean gull flying towards Heywood direction and what i can only describe as a spectacular sight of 100 swifts grouped together in flight as the sun started to create thermals above the water.

08:30-11:45 am with IC and PW 2 Sandwich Terns being vocal flew over South East at 10:15am. 3 Common Terns. 200+ Swifts, Sand Martins, Swallows 20+ House Martins 1 Grasshopper Warbler Herd below Withins Plenty off Sedge Warblers, Whitethroats, Willow Warblers and Blackcaps singing.

2 Whimbrel were originally found by Brian near the creek, these stayed for around 45 minutes then flew off North, around 10 minutes later 2 more (or the same returning) Whimbrel flew in and stayed for 10 minutes before flying off SE. Elton year list now 122. Cheers Ian

Much the same as Ian's sightings from 8:40am till 1:15pm with 2 shelduck, 3 common sandpipers, male yellow wagtail around the "pump house" of which I managed to get close up to it and left him there in Stephens company, I only found 1 little ringed plover, 1 sedge warbler, 2 dunlins by wader point plus a total of 4 very wet birders that were seen between withins and elton.

This a.m. 1st with Brian then Steve, Malcolm and another birder whose name I've forgotten. Black-necked Grebe has departed but Long-tailed Duck still present, also on res 2 Shelduck, 2 Gadwall, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and 4 Common Sandpiper. By pumphouse 1 male Yellow Wagtail, a male and female Wheatear and Grasshopper Warbler "reeling" just below. Also appalling weather. Cheers Ian

By 11am there was about 30+ swifts, at least a dozen house martins, 200+ sand martins ans swallows, 2 common tern, 3 common sandpiper and 2 redshank at Wader point and a grasshopper warbler at the bottom of withins reservoir.

Willow Warbler numbers have dropped off but 9 Whitethroats and 5 Sedge Warblers are an increase with 2 Reed Warblers were at Coney Green

The 3 Mediterranean gulls are constantly in the air and keep circling about the area and occasionally land on the water near a group of lesser black backed gulls but are very vocal. Unfortunately they haven't returned after their last circuit at 6:10pm on my depart at 6:25 but may do so yet?
