ETA: It should be fair to add here that Ian has contacted me regarding the little ringed plover to say it would be an unusually late sighting if correct (I realised it was late, but didn't realise it was unusually so); we had if it Philip's scope, and I was happy that it was a juvenile little ringed plover, but, well, I don't claim not to make mistakes, either! Would be interesting to see if anyone else picks one out to confirm. :)

Visited Little Woolden Moss mid-afternoon but similar observations to those already noted.
A few sightings along Astley Road between M62 and railway line:
Buzzard - up to 5 including 3 together Kestrel - a pale female on ground in a bare field south of Woodstock Farm. Paler brown than usual with the head almost cream-coloured (no, not a saker I'm afraid!). It was plucking feathers from a bird-kill. Raven - heard Mistle Thrush - flock of 19

Speaking with the signalman at the railway level crossing at Rindle Road yesterday, he informed me that there have been two recent instances of car jackings at the level crossing.
When motorists leave their car to open or close the gates (and almost always leave their keys in the car or the car running whilst they do so) car jackers have been hiding nearby and jump into the car to drive them off.
So if you do use the level crossing at Rindle Road (and I suppose such crossing elsewhere too) take you keys with you and lock your car when you open and close the gates.

John - there is a track down to the reserve off Astley Road (opposite the W end of Twelve Yards Rd). There is space for a couple of cars by the entrance gate. You can then walk straight into the reserve.
