Cuckoo calling above upper reservoir this morning but despite 5 (yes five!) people looking it remained elusive and wasn't seen. Otherwise it's been very quiet recently apart from a flyover Whimbrel on 21st May.

This morning around castleshaw,
A number of goldfinches together Ca 6, and a male Linnet perched and singing on the overhead cable over the small car park near 'Wood farm'. Continuing along the wall a pair of Linnet, presumably the male from earlier, was singing again as it was on the pathway. 2 male Wheatears also in the fray, 1 reed bunting and several meadow pipits. 2 Whinchat on the reservoir wall, also on the path. In the bottom corner after the pumphouse were 2 Redshanks and 2 Common Sanpipers standing on the cobbles on the waters' edge. 1 Mistle thrush. 1 more male wheatear nearer to the fishermens' entrance in the field, through the bigger gate (no public access gate).

'Arctic like' conditions at Castleshaw today in the hail and cold wind. Left my gloves at home and suffered for it. Almost frostbitten hands watching 5 wheatear in the hail.
Good to see that the water level has dropped exposing some shoreline. 2 common sandpipers together near 'wood barn'.
Also, Redshank, 2 oystercatchers, meadow pipits, pied wagtail, several sand, house and swallows.

An early morning jaunt around the lower reservoir didn't result in any really new sightings. Most of the usual suspects were present plus a single Yellow Wagtail near the overflow at the 'Pumphouse'. Noticeably the water level in both reservoirs is falling a little, maybe it will attract a few waders.
