Yes, Mike. It's one of the really interesting things about the pool. Time of day, levels of disturbance and particularly with the gulls, the quality of the feeding on the adjacent fields seem to produce such regular changes in bird numbers.

Thanks for the recent posts, Mike/Brian/John - I finallly caught up with those Dunlin today
Woke to a grey morning but knew it was going to be a good one when I looked out of the window and saw 3 Grey Partridges pecking away on the lawn, as well as 31 Redwing and 1 Fieldfare in a tree in the garden.
As soon as the weather cleared I walked down to the flash in bright sunlight. About three quarters of the water was frozen, concentrating all the birds in the remainder. I had been scanning for a while without picking up the Dunlin and had settled for admiring 5 Shoveler (3 males), when 2 small waders flew across to join the Lapwing on the far side. They were Dunlin and must have been feeding out of sight on the near side of the flash. Total counts included: 2 Dunlin, 16 Grey Partridge, 5 Shoveler, 73 Wigeon, 15 Lapwing, 13 Pochard, 1 Cormorant, 5 Fieldfare, 4 Goldfinch, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 3 Teal, 66 Mallard, 26 Coot, 42 Rooks and 20 Jackdaws.
Walking back homewards a flock of 26 Golden Plover and 192 Lapwing were feeding in a field immediately to the east of Highfield Lane.
