A word of warning to anyone birding up at the Res.
A message on a local neighbourhood app is asking people to be vigilant after a large Wasp or Bees nest (some are not sure which) has been found at the side of Res No.1 on the railway side (far side).
A number of walkers and dog walkers have been attacked, one with no less than 15 stings to head and neck needing A&E due to them infecting, her dog suffered severe vomiting, needed steroid injections and was placed on a drip after going into shock. In another incident, another dog walkers dog ended up going into toxic shock but sadly the dog died as the owner couldnt get it to a vet in time.
Take care folks!

Hirundines had increased in number with at least 10 House Martin, over 100 Sand Martin but Swallows still seem low in number. Also at least 20 Swift.

Nice to see some familiar faces this morning up at the Res.
- 1 Lapland Bunting ... a belter! Had a couple of flyovers before now but only ever seen 1 before that afforded views as good as this, and that was here at Audy Res too! Thought it was going to be a needle in a haystack job locating it due to the masses of Meadow Pipits but managed to get on to it fairly quickly. It was quite mobile and was lost to view for a while but I managed to pick it up again a little later, and actually heard it flying over too.
- Meadow Pipits Cant remember seeing as many in one place, they were everywhere. On main path, grass bankings, cobbles, walls, central wells, probably more out of view. Interested to see how many other observers reckon, but I reckon there couldve been around c500 total.
Other birds of note... - 1m Yellow Wagtail - 1f Wheatear - lots of Sand Martins - few Swallows - 2 pairs of Goldeneye - 1 Common Snipe flushed from cobbles
And a very interesting adult type Gull amidst some Herrings and Lesser Black-backeds. Appeared to have a grey mantle somewhere in between the 2, but I couldnt further the identification due to poor visibility with the snow flurries. At one point all I could see was blurry wet smudges on my optics and misty lenses so I had to let it go. Probably a Herring anyway! Couple of camera shots and digiscoped efforts attached.
I managed to catch up with the Lapland Bunting this morning around 10.30ish. There were also around 150 Meadow Pipits. All birds were flighty and as far as I'm aware the Bunting wasn't seen by anyone after 10.30. The weather was inclement and viewing proved to be difficult as it didn't stay still for long!
Also present
Yellow Wagtail Wheatear 4 Whooper Swan Snipe
