Couple of hours peering into hedgerows again revealed at least 12 Goldcrests between creek and capsticks, tried my best to make one of them Yellow-browed !. On res. 1 Goldeneye and 5 Teal. Cheers Ian

Another 2 hours with Brian searching the hedgerows, again no joy, did see a Peregrine, 3 Teal, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Kingfisher, lots of Redwing and heard a Willow Tit.

2 hours from 1st light with Brian, 5 Teal, 1 Goldeneye, at least 10 Fieldfare with 30+ Redwing. The Yellow-legged Gull seen in March has just been accepted by the GMRC, I believe this may be Elton's 1st record of this species.

From 1st light with Brian, joined later by Steven. Whilst searching the hedgerows for Yellow-browed Warbler we found a Chiffchaff, plus brief views of an unidentified Warbler also. On res. 4 Goosander, 2 Shoveler, 1 Goldeneye, 4 Teal, 1 Kingfisher. Above res. 1 Peregrine, 2 Raven, 1 Rook, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparroehawk.

This a.m. with Brian and Steven, quite a good morning, 7 Redwings over West, 2 Teal, 1 Snipe, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Wheatear, then at 9.25 a Little Egret landed near creek only to be flushed one minute later by a Peregrine landing on pylon behind it, the Egret flew off East. Cheers Ian Forgot the 2 Rooks

Largely quite. Drake goldeneye, 1 lesser redpoll, 2 snipe, 3 lesser black backed gulls, 4 common gulls and 100+ black headed gulls to note. Oh, and a little grebe and at last, a pheasant!

There were 83 Pink-footed Geese. These were followed later by another 53 going NW again (just after Ian left). Also a Buzzard in the creek area (not the pale one that has been seen around a lot recently).

from 1st light, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Gadwall, 2 Teal, approx 100 mixed House Martin/Swallow flock joined at 8.30 by 500 more which stayed for 5 mins before they all flew off South. 1 Spotted Flycatcher in hedge below pump house also big thanks to Simon W. & J. for the info on Arctic Skuas heading my way, alas they did not fancy visiting. 4.45pm to 6.45pm on this sunny evening, highlight a rather nice adult male Redstart along the hedge below the Pumphouse wall, and also a Spotted Flycatcher in the same hedge. Also present 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Little Grebe and a steady passage of Swallows heading south.

06.45 till 10.00 with Ian and Steve, 1 spotted flycatcher and garden warbler in the Creek, 2 common sandpipers, 2 snipe,1 peregrine, aprox 300 hirundines, mostly house martins moved of south plus a few meadow pipits passing through.

4.45pm to 6.45pm this evening, 3 Spotted Flycatchers and a Redstart were along the hedge west of the Creek in the field with the hay bales, also a male Bullfinch feeding a juvenile there, and a Redstart was still below Withins. Also 2 Common Sandpipers present and a Peregrine scattering the 500+ Swallows.

6.30-10.00 with Brian and Steven, 1 Peregrine on pylon(also present yesterday), 1 Hobby flew around res. giving quite a show, approx 1,500 hirundines mainly Swallow and House Martin (amazing how they all just vanished when the Hobby appeared), 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Snipe on wader point (4 present yesterday), 2 Little Grebe, 30 Meadow Pipits moved through with a probable Tree Pipit and 5 Linnet also. Also of note this morning, the Garden Warbler is still showing well below the Pumphouse wall, with lots of Blackcaps and 2 Water Rails feeding out on the mud on the pool in the Dip and a female Sparrowhawk scattered the flock of Bullfinches present in there recently.

Early a.m. with Brian and partly also Simon and Steven. Redstart hedge area had 2 Redstart, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap and a Willow Warbler. Smashing day in the sunshine at Elton delivered my first UK Spotted Flycatchers with 2-4 (2 x pairs) 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Kestrel and one Kingfisher flying through the creek at the back of Withins!

early a.m. today, Simon W had a Ringed Plover, we both had adult Dunlin and I also had a juv. Redstart hedge gave good views of Garden Warbler and Whitethroat feeding on Blackberries. Withins had a Kingfisher. Little Owl near Crow Trees. On res. 2 Little Grebe and approx 150 hirundines, mainly Swallow and House Martin over. Cheers Ian

Steve saw a Whinchat down by the path to Crow Trees Farm too. It was very enjoyable birding today in nice weather, my first GM Lesser Whitethroats showing well and 2 Spotted Flycatchers just delightful down by the Pumphouse. It was great to meet the Elton regulars too, I've always enjoyed reading the posts from Elton and the look on Ian's face when we mentioned the Ruff was a picture!
