The adult Little Gull was present in the roost again tonight, along with an adult Yellow-legged Gull and two displaying Mediterranean Gulls (the latter thanks to Phil Rhodes).
Also, c200 Sand Martins came in from an easterly direction late on and continued west through the flash to roost somewhere. At least 6 Swallows also present.

In between the rain and thunderstorm this afternoon, there was a single house martin with 40+ sand martins, best seen from the south east corner. My earliest ever house martin in the UK, in fact the first I have ever seen in March, so well pleased!

That weather certainly did arrive, just at the point when I'd been tempted out by mention of sand martins, of which, as John says, my reckoning was ~70 in the SE (when the horizontal rain and drifting smoke from a fire on S side the parted). The scoter seemed in its element and the most lively birds were the snipe 5 chasing each other around the spit just as the rain set in. Sadly I missed the gulls, but, apart from things mentioned by others, a dozen or so reed buntings and a very obliging willow tit at the feeders was nice to see.

Bloody weathermen when do they ever get it right -double rain all day forecast what did we have ,no rain and warm SE winds.I wonder how many stayed in with that threatened doom and gloom ,instead of getting out there and finding a few good birds in ideal migratory conditions? anyway what did I see ....

Late from Friday 25th-
Passing through G. Manchester, (first time this year) I managed 75 mins around Pennington Flash, at 4 pm.
Despite the holiday crowds I recorded 40 species in relatively short time, hearing my first Chiffchaff and Cetti's Warbler for 2016.
Always great to visit, but a pity we're always short of time.

A walk along the canal then round the hides this afternoon.
46 species seen, highlights included:
-3 Shelduck (2 from Ramsdale's Hide, 1 on Spit) -2 Goosander (Both from Teal Hide) -1 Greylag Goose (Middle of flash) -2 Black-Tailed Godwits (1 from Ramsdale's, 1 on Spit) -1 Redshank (On spit) -4 Oystercatcher (On spit) -1 Nuthatch (Bunting Hide) -5 Bullfinch & 4 Greenfinch also at Bunting Hide Plus usual species, similarly no Chiffchaff or Sand Martin.

little gull in roost tonight, phil Rhodes turned up & i put him straight on to it, he then soon found 2 Mediterranean gulls. a couple of not so great pics attached of the little gull, you can see what it is. 1 shelduck 7 curlew over 3 redshank 8 oystercatcher 3 snipe 9 goosander 4 skylark 3 buzzard & 1 sparrowhawk in the air at once, another sparrowhawk low over the flash. 1 nuthatch 4 redwing 2 cettis warbler heard only plus usuals around.

A Goldcrest was in full song at 1600 hrs., appropriately within earshot of the hide named in honour of Tom Edmondson whose funeral will take place in Chester tomorrow morning. Four Skylarks were singing over Ramsdale's ruck and a Curlew called from high overhead at 1620 hrs.
