Magnificent winter plumage Red-Throated Diver between 11.30 and 1.30 was generally better seen from the Sailing Club side just because of the low angled sun in your eyes on the Rucks. Great views in the scope but pretty much beyond camera reach while I was there.
Pennington Flash was quite bird-rich and people-poor once the run had finished this morning, with almost continuous fine drizzle - in Scotland it would be called a "driech" day!
Terrific views of the Little Egret from Ramsdale's Hide... it WAS briliant to watch it fishing very actively. Good to share the experience with John Tymon too. Other sightings Goosander 10 on main flash, 6 Pochard, 7 Little Grebes at western end (2 adults with 5 well-grown juveniles), 16 Great Crested Grebe, a stunning 400 or so Tufted Duck all together in the Ramsdales Flash area in front of the leaning posts, 8 Wigeon at Teal and Tom Ed, at least 60 Gadwall between the same two plus Pengy's, 16 Shoveler, 1 Water Rail heard, 3 Snipe, 6 Pied Wagtail, 1 Grey Wagtail, 6 Goldcrest, a flock of 20 Redpoll with I think 2 Siskin in tops of trees by the new screen, 114 Redwing counted all around the Flash, 8 Jay, 6 Bullfinch.
