An interesting comment by Roger Baker about the Waxwings so far ignoring the Rowan tree with yellow berries in Hyde. I've noticed this before. It might that that they are not familiar with the yellow-berried form in their normal habitat.
There is a Rowan with yellow berries not far from where I live, and this is usually left by all species. However during the last Waxwing "invasion" they did eventually feed on this tree but only when all the red berries had gone from other trees and shrubs.
It will be worth keeping an eye on the yellow berries at Morrisons if food gets scarcer later in the winter.

About 50 now feeding next to Talbot Road at the junction with St Mary's Road, opposite Louvolite entrance. Most of the birds were staying at the top of the tall poplar, dropping down in smaller groups to the berry trees which still have plenty of berries left.
The birds are pretty flighty due to the close proximity of traffic and public passing by.

c20 seen this morning on Liverpool st between 11 and 12. I arrived at 11 and after just a few minutes they arrived a little further up the road from the co op funeral directors. They came in with a flock of redwing and fieldfare and stopped in a tree on the corner of Sedan court(?) for about 10 minutes before flying back south west again without feeding. I met Steve and then a couple of others back near the crab apples. Within 10 minutes they had returned to the same tree up the road and another, a larger flock this time c30-35. This time they did oblige and spent a good five minutes feeding on the crabs at the co op. It seems a reliable spot and there are still plenty of fruit on the two trees. it would be interesting to know if these are the same birds that are seen in the Ordsall area as that is the general direction they seem to head.
So grateful to the original locator of this flock. Really fantastic close up views of them feeding in stunning light. A real treat. What an incredible unreal bird.

Cross Lane/Liverpool Street @ 2.13pm 25/35 Waxwings dropped down for just a couple of minutes to feed on crab apples. In the vicinity there were around 40 Redwings and a handful of Fieldfares as well as the usual Mistle Thrushes and Blackbirds. Activity had pretty much come to a halt when a Sparrowhawk gave chase to a bird over the road. Feathers were later seen descending for a good few minutes so I presume the hawk was on a kill in the high branches in trees over the road, from where extremely high warning calls could be heard for quite some time. In addition to the 40 or so local redwings I saw a flock of circa 100 fly past. A small flock of Long-tailed Tits and chaffinches seen and at the end of the day two small flocks of House Sparrows flew past no doubt off to roost,
