Juv. Kingfisher yesterday, which is great as it means the male and female I saw back in May have been successful parents near Stockport somewhere!

Also had a quick look on return from work without a sighting. Can't rule out the possibility it was a Wood Sandpiper either. Will cycle with my binoculars tomorrow just in case it's still about.

A quick look for the sandpiper, but unsurprisingly there was nothing. This stretch of the river is always busy with dog-walkers and the like. Today a couple were paddling with their small child on the island, so I knew it was a doomed mission! It was my first chance to watch the Sand Martins this year, also a few Swift about. The other thing is that a pair of Pied Wagtails seem to have displaced the formerly regular pair of Grey Wagtails from the corner territory across the river from the island.
Sorry Chris that I couldn't confirm your sighting for you!

Sandpiper species at 07.10 this morning behind Patch Island. No optics to view, but it did look a little darker, and I'm sure showed white in the rump, so I'm assuming it's a Green, as opposed to the more 'usual' Common that I have seen here on a regular basis(although not at this time of year).
Worth checking if anyone's around today.
Also Goosander, Blackcap, 2 Common Whitethroat, 3 Willow Warble, 3 Chiffchaff, 30 Sand Martin, Swallow, Grey Wagtail

Took part in a CWT led "Dawn Chorus" walk today organised by the Heaton Mersey Village Conservation Group.
Nothing surprising but good views of 3 Bullfinch together (one female), 4 individual Blackcap males, 2 Common Whitethroat plus a heard only Garden Warbler on the opposite river bank. Lapwing and Oystercatcher apresent as "Flyovers"
Great supporting cast all in full and fabulous song - well worth the early start.

Chiffchaff calling from back of horse field (my first this year)
A pair of kingfishers calling and flying upriver between patch island and garlic bend. Grey wagtail by M60 bridge.
Lots of dunnock, wren, chaffinch and goldcrest calls along the river between Geoff's bridge and the flood defence sluices.
Bad news, with yet more good birding habitat being cleared at Gorsey Bank. Used to be home to lots of blackcap, willow warbler & chiffchaff along with nuthatch and great spotted woodpecker. Now been flattened and all the trees chopped down ready for some kind of development I guess.
