Late morning visit to Georges Lane / Belmont Rd area of the Moors.
Thanks to Martin Loftus for the valuable info earlier on, managed to locate the Ring Ouzels, then whilst watching them David Hughes turned up, nice to meet you too mate.
- 5 Ring Ouzels (3m + 2f minimum) A female fairly close in a tree but she flew to lower end of field, 1 male scampering around near the ditch, joined by a 2nd male, both were joined by a 3rd male and a female so 4 in one view.
On the way back to the car I could hear one singing in a field nearer to the cafe but I couldnt locate it so that was probably a 6th. Superb birds these!
Also... - 1 Crossbill over calling near conifer plantation - 1 Siskin over calling over Ouzel field - 1 House Martin through Ouzel field - 1m Reed Bunting near cafe - 1m Wheatear on path wall - 1f Stonechat on path wall - 1 Peregrine over - 1 Raven high over - Meadow Pipits and Skylark
While on a visit to George's lane i found myself introduced to Rob Creek ,watching the ring ouzels which showed very well, also on my visit, sparrowhawk, kestrel ,meadow pipit, pheasant, buzzard, carrion crow ,magpie the return to the car park gave me a stonechat, and as i spotted a distant buzzard, i checked it out to find it was a red kite, looking from George's lane toward the mast it drifted and passed in front of the mast from my spot.

Only 4 ring ouzels showing very intermittently in the fields below the Pike.
One green woodpecker was yaffling from the edge of the sheep fields early on.
As soon as the snow melted at least 10 Wheatears suddenly appeared from nowhere and were all sat out in the sun just under Belmont rd/ Georges lane.
Uncountable numbers of meadow pipits passing through.
Late news for yesterday, when 6 Ring Ouzel were still just on the Lancashire side of Georges Lane, just below the pike. A further 4 birds got up from the new plantation on the west side of Roscoes Tenement Clough off Coal Pit Lane too.

First venture onto the moors, with a nice loop up Georges Ln, Rivington Pike, Winter Hill, Two Lads and back. Sadly no sign of the ring ouzels (maybe i was looking in the wrong place!), but did manage pheasant, woodpigeon, lapwing, BH gull, magpie, coal tit, blue tit, skylark (lots of), swallow, chiffchaff, blackbird, robin, stonechat, house sparrow, pied wagtail, meadow pipit and an unexpected reed bunting! Most birdlife seemed to be in the fields and plantations around the cafe.

Just a reminder to anyone visiting the area, particularly with the intention of photographing the ouzels, that literally chasing them around the fields is unacceptable and yes, it has happened today at least. It seems that, whilst it might well not be anyone registered or indeed using this forum and instead, are those 'photographers' from other social media platforms, groups or sites, they certainly seem to use this forum to glean information, so hopefully may read this (and probably typically ignore it!).
Good photographs can be obtained with patience, some field craft and anticipation, as has been proven, but the selfish and ignorant behaviour of some appears to know no bounds it seems

Had a walk from George's Lane round the moors, to Walker Fold Wood and back again today.
In the fields south off George's Lane I managed to catch a peek of 2 of the 5 Ring Ouzel, M+F. It took me a long while to finally see them though, they were very shy so I didn't stick around to try and find the others. Crossbills were next on my agenda and I think I saw two or three zipping by over the conifers off George's Lane, further on from the cafe, but I'm not 100%, don't have any prior experience with the species so don't want to call it. All was good though as 5 were feeding and calling from the treetops at Walker Fold Wood giving some decent views! Also of note during the walk were a pair of Stonechat and my first Wheatear of the year!:)
