My luck hasn't changed all year, an opportunity arises in my busy life to see some excellent birds (Bittern and long tailed duck in this case) and I just miss them by a day or two (according to reports from others) efforts were made to find them but with no joy. -no matter, that's birding for you. I had plenty of fun at the bunting hide instead today. Willow tit, nuthatch, and about 20 stock doves were key highlights along with the usual reed bunting and bullfinches etc. There was several large pieces of bread in a dip next to the feeders and a moorhen spotted them and decided to grab one and attempted to run of with it which was very comical to watch. Other highlights included over 20 goosanders, 30+ lapwings a Jay and around 5 wigeon. The ride from Wigan to the flash along the canal had all the common thrushes (redwing, fieldfare, blackbird, mistle and song thrush). That's that for now, thanks.
