Adult Iceland gull and adult Mediterranean gull in the roost this evening, but no sign of juvenile Iceland or juvenile glaucous gulls. This is probably the Iceland gull that has been in Haydock and Newton-le-Willows today, so there is a good chance that the juvenile glaucous could return as well, since it has spent the day with the adult Iceland.
Info thanks to Neil Gordon.

Just a quick note which may be of interest, what looks like the same glaucous gull that was at the flash a week or two ago was on Lyme and Woods Pit tip in Haydock yesterday. It's probably been roosting at Prescot reservoirs, but at least we know it's still in the area and a return to Pennington may be on the cards soon.

In the gull roost this evening, the juvenile Iceland gull again and 2 adult Mediterrranean gulls, one with a complete black hood, the other with a 75% hood.
The adult and Iceland gull and juvenile glaucous gull are still in the area as close as Haydock, so could come in again any day.

I too got the same reply from Mike Jackson and Pete Rock that the Gull was part of the Harewood Whin Landfill ringing project. Apologies for late post - iPhone software trouble after the latest update!
Saturday 28th Jan, late afternoon visit, good to see Jonathan Platt and co. and then Phil Kelly.
Of note... - 3 Scaup close up just off the car park - 1 Long-tailed Duck - 1 adult Mediterranean Gull in roost - 1 drake Pochard - 10+ Goosander - plenty of Goldeneye
2 other Gulls of note (and I was told they had been noted by Flash regulars too)... 1 that looked good at first for adult Yellow-legged Gull on the end of the spit, mantle hue and the legs looked ok but eventually I decided something just didn't fit, can't put my finger on it. Possible Hybrid? Also a juvenile that I thought looked very similar to Yellow-legged Gull but I was told it had been noted and it isn't one, but on a positive note that I will take from that is the fact I'd picked up on the same 2 individuals that more experienced birders had picked up on too, so I'm happy with that.
The juvenile glaucous gull was still in the overnight roost at 7.35am I watched it bathing for almost 10 minutes before it eventually dissapeared at 7.45am. Mediterranean gull was also still in roost, no signs of the iceland gull. Long-tailed duck still present.

I managed to get to Green Lane at Pennington Flash for just after 4pm today and so got the last hour of the gull roost. I'm glad I made the effort because I picked out two white wingers, first of all the juvenile glaucous gull dropped in at about 4:20pm and then at 5pm a juvenile Iceland gull appeared. The glaucous gull is definately the same bird that roosted last week in my opinion. Not sure about the Iceland, it's a week or two now since the last was reported so it may be a new bird. There were many more large gulls today than there were last week, with 1000+ from Green Lane and others in the distance. The glaucous gull hasn't been reported since last Friday morning, perhaps it's simply not a weekend bird if it's feeding on a tip which is only open during the week.
