Two Sand martins hawking above the new pools at the west end of Little Woolden Moss briefly this afternoon. A female Marsh harrier flew through flushing eight Curlew from arable to the east of the moss. I also heard a Dunlin, which was presumably the small wader I could see flying over the west end pools a few minutes later - I was at the kissing gate on the north side so too far to ID. Several more Curlew seen/heard walking back down Moss Lane.

Little Woolden Moss 11.15-14.30
A nervous flock of 245 Lapwings were on the turfed farmland just south of the moss, also here were a group of 26 Fieldfares together with a similar number of Starlings.
Excavators were working on the moss, close to the site of the former hide, so there was little birdlife on this part of the reserve.
However two large pools have been formed at the western end of the moss and 42 Lapwings rested by one of them.
4 more Lapwings were on a newly ploughed field just to the north of the reserve.
A pair of Buzzards circled high above the moss, and 2 more were over adjacent farmland, plus a single Kestrel.
2 Ravens flew across the reserve, whilst singles of Pied Wagtail and Reed Bunting represented the only small birds seen on the moss, although a few common garden birds
were in the birches by the car park.
