Hi all, this may well be my first ever post on here although I do monitor the site regularly. You may have seen my video of the woodcock scuttling across my path in October in St John's Gardens where I live. I'll try and post more updates from that area as I get several birds on my feeders (and some unusual ones passing through).
Thought you might appreciate this video of a peregrine falcon chasing off a sparrowhawk near the cathedral on Wednesday last week. The sparrowhawk seemed to be pushing its luck by circling over part of the peregrine's territory for a while, until the peregrine decided enough was enough and nearly caught it over 101 Greengate.
Nine Canada geese on the stretch of the Irwell from Victoria Bridge Street to Cathedral Approach. Further down where Victoria Street meets Hunt's Bank, there were two pair and I caught sight of four goslings before the adults sent them to cover.

Not sure whether this is within the accepted boundary for city centre sightings but must be close.
Whilst joining the Mancunian Way from Ashton Old Road at 11:30pm last night I saw a large dark shape drift low over the road from the direction of the city centre, it then landed on a patch of grass at the road side. Looking across it was quite a surprise to see a Grey Heron standing there.

When I first arrived 2 flew away down the river away from Pin Mill Brow. Also had brief glimpses where you can see the river either side of Fairfield Street

i went to look for the dipper that dave broome had on Wednesday, I looked in the area he had it on the river medlock at Fairfield street/coronation square but no joy. I had a wonder around to other areas I could see & then eventually seen a dipper on the river medlock but just outside the city centre zone at pin mill brow/mancunian way/great ancoats street it eventually flew under the bridge into the city centre zone where it gave slightly closer views from the bridge
further down great ancoats street just before the retail park on the corner of gidding road there was at least 32 redwing, 4 mistle thrush & 5 blackbirds feeding on berries.
A dozen or so Redwings feeding on the berries on the trees at Tib Street car park. Also a similar number feeding in the gardens of Oak Street behind The Wheat Sheaf pub.

The Yellow-Browed Warbler was last positively heard at around 12.10 - 12.15pm right above our heads in tall Sycamores on Cobourg St. next to the main UMIST building (as it used to be). Despite it moving about the high crown leaves calling we just could not see it so the only sighting remains that of the observant and lucky finder. We departed at 4pm empty-handed as far as a GM tick (well for some inc. me).
Other sightings were a regular Chiffchaff where the Yellow-Browed Warbler was found, Mistle Thrushes building a nest (!) with nylon twine and other rubbish in the crook of a tree bordering London Road; Blue Tits fly-catching and eating insects from underneath peeling paintwork and around metal-framed windows on a university building bordering London Road; Grey and Pied Wagtails on the rooftops, Blackbirds and (not seen by myself) a Goldcrest and a Peregrine Falcon over
