Ringed Plover this morning (SH) was the first of the Spring passage and remained late afternoon. Also still around is the 2CY Whooper Swan that is accompanying the Mutes. This bird has been injured and ringed by the RSPCA but now appears to be ok and mobile. It may now just remain with us and over summer. The Whooper Swan seen on the Flash earlier in April, also 2CY, was a different bird.

Spent an hour or so around Neumanns late morning. The Avocet had departed (although two returned later in the day) and the single Whooper Swan remains with the Mutes. A Cuckoo was heard calling from up near Carey Park and flew to trees on the west side of Neumanns. A Garden Warbler was singing away on Wincham Mound.
Fairly quiet on Ashtons with just a Redshank in the wetland area although a Sedge Warbler was singing nearby.

Great morning on patch with flyover Osprey (JG) and Willow Tit (GB) being found before 8am at adjacent Carey Park and Witton Mill car park respectively. I then found a female type Whinchat on the fence line at Ashton's Flash before heading to Neumann's Flash to check out an unconfirmed report of a Redshank type wader which turned out to be a juvenile Spotted Redshank. The latter three birds were still around when I departed around 1pm. Amongst others :-
The male Garganey in eclipse plumage showed well as it swam across the Flash from Mound Bay to the northwestern spit, before flying back to its favoured position to the east of the hide.
Pods Hide 10-11.30 weather fine and pleasant, amongst others :-
Garganey (1) Little Egret (2) Dunlin (3) Greenshank (2) Ringed Plover (2) Little Ringed Plover (1) Curlew (2) Water Rail (1) White Wagtail (1)
The male Garganey in eclipse plumage was showing well at times, swimming then preening just back from the waters edge. When it was sleeping amongst the Teal with its head tucked in, that was a different matter.
Little Egret (2) Dunlin (5) Greenshank (2) Black-tailed Godwit (3) Ringed Plover (4 ad, 1 juv) Little Ringed Plover (1 juv) Curlew (60+) Little Grebe (11) Sand Martin (1)
The male Garganey had been reported at around 7am this morning but had disappeared by 8am as had a sole Green Sandpiper.
