Walk through the gate on Lily Lane/Bolton Road (near the speed camera), on to the path through the paddocks. Once through the gate look left, up the hill, towards Lily Farm (not Lily Lane Farm, confusing I know). The owl was on a fencepost of the fence surrounding the wooded area at Lily Farm.

Whinchat and wheatear still present at 20.30 although they,d moved over the field to the border of the paddock and viridor wood proper.Very nice borough twitch,even managed to drag Mr.Broome away from wetherfield watching.

Not a lot this am. 12 Carrion Crows mobbing a Buzzard provided some entertainment. There was a bit of a 'movement' of Fieldfares with over 200 in several flocks moving north west towards Wigan Flashes. Otherwise all the usual suspects and no sign of any Ravens.

And when you realise this site abuts onto the higher part of the Abram Flashes about a mile from Lightshaw, and a lot of those 37 dogs enjoy a swim in the summer months in Glover's Pool or Coffin Brook Flash, disturbing breeding wildfowl and waders as they do it, you can see why we don't want more of the same at Lightshaw. Late start 9.00 till 11.30
I did a full circuit of this site today checking out a few nooks and crannies ,a very pleasant meander around i,ll not bother you with a list of birds seen and noted,but the highlights,200+wood pigeon 2 grey heron,20 meadow pipit,2 raven (honking all the way over,)2 kestrel ( 1 guarding a prey item from the other) 1 jay.Also of note and the reason i went there 37 dogs of various breeds with 29 devoted owners(just a bit surprised at my ability to i.d. the dogs)all enjoying the place, all off the lead and having fun,can,t blame them can you nice car park,nice paths and loads of grass to poo in doggy heaven,as long as you can drive there and not get to messy,Just to add I met 1 person without a dog Yes I did drive there Yes I do have an axe to grind Yes it is a red rose site

Following my (unfortunately) cut short, and unproductive trip to Spurn, I decided to venture into the 'enchanting and mystical' Virridor wood this afternoon. The denizens of which constituted:
Long tailed tit at least 15, Kestrel 2m 1f, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Redwing 2, goldcrest 2, Starlin 45 over, Grey heron, Pied Wagtial, Carrion Crow 3, RObin, Blackbird, Wren, Great Tit, Blue Tit.

a quick walk around the west side at 10:00ish:
1 Brambling flew over me and seemed to go down near Morton's Dairy, but I couldn't re-find it. 3 Fieldfare over heading south. A flock of 32 Woodpigeon also heading south. 16 Grey Partridge at Lily Lane Farm. I could hear a Chiffchaff call a few times in the hedge between the carpark and the road, but couldn't see it.
