Starting at Seddon Fold at 5.30pm today I found a very high level of avian activity around the western fields. 90 minutes later it was quiet.
Swallow...100 plus
Goldfinch.c32
Linnet....24, flushed from farm track.+ single juvenile on wire.
Greenfinch.... 10+ (On same paddock fence wire as Swallows)
Redstart...female, on same fenceline as last week's male, but 60yards west of it.
Wheatear....3 all fem or immature. One was in the usual horse paddock and two on east shoreline ''beach''

This evening up to 7.50. After very heavy showers.
On arrival at Seddon Fold a flight of 7 Gadwall were leaving the lodge going SW. While following this flight I picked up a very large flock of finches at a good height.
150+ and mainly Goldfinch. Halfway across the western fields they turned back away from the Lodge.
A Buzzard was low over the area around the wood.
Swallows .c55
Herring Gull....1 not quite adult probably 4th Summer.
Later a second smaller finch flock (c40) was in with the Swallows, and made off towards the lodge, where Phil Rhodes saw Greenfinch among the Goldfinch.

Grey Heron ( head and neck only seen) in the Knutshaw Brook intake channel.

I dipped on the Whinchat that Phil saw around 6pm today, near where last week's Redstart had been!

Dam and wood this am:
Juvenile Grey Heron, Moorhen, and 4 Mallards were
among the blue/green algae.
Nuthatch and Coal Tit seen in the wood.
Along the hedge were at least 6 juvenile Greenfinch.
This is my third location of juvenile Greenfinch in the western fields here.

At 4.25 a Common Sandpiper flew low across the lodge, and fed for a while on the east shoreline.
The 3 Black-tailed Godwits still present as I left.

Wheatear...1 female or possible juvenile~ it was a nervous bird near the horses. Photos at some distance.

Black-tailed Godwit still present at 11:30 this morning, along with a hunting juvenile Peregrine, 3 Common Sandpiper, 2 Little Ringed Plover and a Willow Tit.

Today around 12.30 pm. Dam/wood:
Blue/green algae by the dam. Quiet.
A juvenile Grey Heron was having a long stare at the green soup below it's feet.
A juvenile Carrion Crow was begging from a parent.
Coot family in the channel...6 or 7

Kingfisher and Dipper, both past regulars here, have not been seen( by me) this year.

Great Crested Grebe...2 including one well maturing juvenile. Almost certainly Rumworth bred.
