Not quite in my garden but in my next door neighbours garden (Irlam) in a large conifer there is a Goldcrests nest. Although I can't see it there is lots of high pitched calling from the young and I've seen the adults flitting in and out. This conifer attracts Goldcrests every winter so it's nice to see them using it in summer. Hopefully I'll get a glimpse of the young at some point and get an idea of how many there are.

Well found Steve, you could have saved yourself that long walk to Norton Marsh last week.

There was no call and no clue as to what it might have been feeding on (if anything).

35 Starling of which 25 were young birds in our garden this afternoon. Not as many birds in general this year due to only feeding fats, nyger and fruit to try and eliminate a Feral Pigeon problem but still getting plenty of young Blue and Great Tits, the odd young Greenfinch a few more juv Goldfinch and 3 independent Dunnock with their parents. Juv Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker were seen a couple of times a few weeks ago and just spotted a juv Blackbird skulking in the shrubbery. Always a joy to look out and see these young birds.

Bit of a rarity for my Stockport garden in the shape of a Willow Tit amongst young blue and coal tit's, it stayed for around 40 minutes to an hour helping itself to my sunflower hearts occasionally flitting away to come back in a few minutes.
A first for me in the garden and also a first for me in Stockport Borough.

Just finished watching the pulsating finale to the Test Match (only cricket matches wildlife watching) when a glance through the window towards a neighbours ornamental cherry tree had me a bit puzzled. All I'd seen was a pale coloured rump flying into the bush, and I could only think juvenile greenfinch as I'd seen no other colour. But it was better than that as a quick dash upstairs to the bins revealed three juvenile bullfinches. I had not even thought of them as they haven't been seen near to my garden for about 6 - 7 years. The real mystery though was that there were no adults anywhere to be seen which is unusual. Hope they'll remember the place when winter comes.

Got home from work last night to find a dead Woodpigeon on the lawn near the front door. It looked relatively unharmed but when I turned it over there were talon marks on its back. It was only when I went upstairs that I saw blood spattered all over the bedroom window and signs of bird impact. It appears that the pigeon must have been taken by a raptor (presumably a female Sparrowhawk) and that they both hit the window.
