1 Peregrine ....female which hunted a lone Woodpigeon with awesome and deadly determination ending with one of those rare moments when it appears that the prey becomes resigned to its fate and the two birds became one....later Dave and I saw the Peregrine fly off with a full crop....a pile of feathers testified to the last flight of the Woodpigeon...
then on my return home yet more proof that the conservation message is still and in my opinion increasingly so..not uppermost in modern day farming as I passed along 12 Yards Road seeing that the ditch hedgeline along FN14...that has stood for decades...has been damaged and is continuing to be so ....this supported cover for nesting Yellowhammer...gave cover for a myriad of birds such as Reed Bunting and worse still YET another highway for Willow Tit has been destroyed...the Mosslands have had a healthy population of these as attested by my recording and mapping of same...but I fear if this maddening drive to TIDY every byeway on the moss these will be lost....these birds do not survive on reserves alone and need some help out in the conectivity of landscape in our area....oh and a happy Christmas to all...
