Lapwing at western edge of reserve farmland...oddly none sitting as at least 4 were the other day...I sincerely hope that this 'Silage' field has not suffered the fate of FN29 a winter sown cereal crop and a field I have oft prized as a Lapwing Friendly field up until but two years ago until its planting regime changed..this had recently held 10 pair of sitting Lapwing and had been rolled....I am reliably informed this is to secure the crop...I am also reliably informed by another farmer that rolling is not necessary....no wonder our world is in Natural History Turmoil...I make this observation here for I feel we need to be aware why our world and its wildlife is under such duress....keep those precious records coming into the GMBRG and GMEU for one day they may make positive changes....Dave.

1 female Merlin came racing in at speed low over the peat straight at a feeding flock of Meadow Pipits and Pied Wagtails putting the flock into blind panic. The Merlin homed in on 1 Meadow Pipit following every twist and turn of its quarry. It almost had it a couple of times but eventually the Pipit escaped. Then a Kestrel flew in and had a mid-air skirmish with the Merlin and chased it away. Great stuff to watch.

The area around Morleys Hall and the old sand quarry, only 400 metres from my house, was the focus of my quick exercise the afternoon, only the second time I've been out of the house in over a week other than for work!
Several Redwing, a singing Chaffinch, two singing Goldcrest and three singing Chiffchaff were around Morleys.
Around the old sand quarry, another three Chiffchaff belted out song, a flock of 310 Woodpigeon and a single flock of 25 Skylark could be seen around ploughed fields to the south over on Bedford Moss, whilst around the edges of the old sand quarry itself, a single Skylark sang and six Linnet fed around its slopes amongst a flock of 40 Meadow Pipit.
