Could possibly be the same Yellow-leg I had at Hollingworth Lake on New Year's Day, wasn't sure if it was 1st or 2nd winter at the distance I saw it.

The afternoon did not make for very nice birding when I was outnumbered 9 to 1 by anglers, plus one lame-brain with a high velocity air rifle. I could not stay in the hide long as I felt vulnerable what with three of the dorks pitching their pathetic green igloos right by the door. This place gets more like a free-for-all every time I go. I'm afraid I cannot hang around when someone is shooting at birds as there is every chance I might say something I might regret. Time to write to United Utilities me thinks.

A quick look in this afternoon. Of the birds seen in the morning which had been entered into the log, common tern and sev swifts were still around, but I did add a single wheatear to that. That appeared to be it until I was making my way off down the side of number 2 reservoir. Alerted by the sound of panicking martins, I caught sight of a raptor just above the wall to my right, and running up the bank came face to face with a hobby. It was in view for about five minutes (from around 4.30), becoming a speck beyond the motorway.
Excellent. A first for me at this site, and for this year.

Info thanks to Rob and Sonia Adderley and my apologies for the late posting despite their prompt phone call to me. Some serious and typically frustrating computer problems have taken me all evening to fortunately resolve with much appreciated help from Paul at Astley Computers (as always).
