A dozen waxwings on trees adjacent to Marston Tavern on Rochdale Road, Royton (town centre) nearing dusk on 15th. Flew off towards Tandle Hill --possibly roost point? Visited site this morning whilst on day off. Four birds present at 10am for about 10mins. Two flew off over Royton Library but the other two went towards Irk Valley. Found the first two being bullied by a pair of Mistle Thrushes by a cherry tree--fair number of berries-- almost inside entrance of Royton Sports Centre - to the rear of the library. Later saw three birds in Irk Valley flying off towards Elk Mill Retail Park and Broadway (both past Waxwing sites for the Royton area---- dont know if there is any food for them at the moment but these sites are worth checking later-- unfortunately have domestic tasks to pursue for now). Regards Brian.

Hi Karen, i phoned the message out whilst trying to relocate them. They were all gathered in the poplars outside the Louvelite factory then flew towards the housing estate at 11.30 with the last few leaving about 11.40. It is amazing that a flock of 80+ birds can just disappear without trace. Sorry you missed them.

Talbot Road - 120 birds present today between 14.15 and 15.45 in one big flock flitting between the berry tree and the taller trees to the left of the houses on the service road. We had really close up views using a parked van as a screen!!

Woodley waxwings reappeared at 11.15 today at the precinct, flock of 20-30 chased into an adjacent berry tree by the thrush that continues to guard the one tree left with berries on. Prior to that no sign, in either the precinct or the nearby estate

I went yesterday (3rd Jan) to Woodley. c.50+ giving superb views. An added bonus was a Waxwing in my hand !! One of the residents from the flats on Oldham Road behind the favoured berry tree called me over to look at Waxwing on the floor. He thought it was just exhausted but I think it must have flown into a window and stunned itself. The were no sign of any injuries to it. The bloke was worried for it's safety as lots of cats around. It let me pick it up without a struggle. After about 10 mins it got a little more lively and shortly after flew off non the worse for wear!! (not before I managed a photo !!) Absolutely gorgeous creature that deserved a happy ending! Beats holding a Storm Petrel when I was a kid - and that died shortly afterwards!!

Counted around 70 between Woodley Precinct and Lowes Arms at about 1030.
Close to 1100 going south along the A34, I saw a flock over the rough ground to the west of the A34, seemingly heading for the junction of Wilmslow Road and Syddall Avenue (or thereabouts). Cannot swear as to their ID, but they seemed identical in their flight as small flocks which were flying around the Woodley site. Perhaps the flock that has been roosting at Stanley Green Retail Park.

Sorry Rob, I wasn't even looking for them today but the wife went out to the shops and returned a minute later to say they were back.
There seemed to be about 8 on the top of the sycamore and then the maple on the Walton Road/Eastway junction and we also briefly followed them to a berry tree on the corner of Ludford Grove where they again were chased off by a Mistle Thrush.
I've still not found where they go to because they again flew towards Timperley but I could not relocate them, although I've now heard they've been in gardens on Marford Crescent as well so are still clearly in the area.

Well done Dave - I had a good look around the Eastway, Manor Avenue & Sylvan areas this morning and had just a Mistle Thrush to show for it.
The Redwing flock at Shaftesbury Avenue/Aimson Rd Eat junction has risen to 60 or so, much more flighty than any Waxwing flock so still plenty of berries should the Waxwings wander that far.
Woodley was better this afternoon, 60+, possibly up to 90 but mobile, and we did have a few stones thrown at us from behind the shops, probably from the railway footbridge area.

Mobile flock still in the Walton Road/Eastway area of Sale this afternoon. Very flighty but have their eyes on a berry bush on corner of Eastway guarded by a Mistle Thrush and will perch on adjacent tall trees. Regularly then fly towards Bridgewater canal hedgerows and am going to check out area.

Belated news of a waxwing flock near to the ATC huts at the end of Eastway, Sale.
The birds have apparently been present since Christmas Day but despite being only 2 minutes walk from my house I only found out yesterday (when I was in work!) The berry crop is now somewhat depleted but I did see up to 16 birds this morning but only for a few minutes when they flew off to the Timperley side of the Bridgewater canal. Anyone living in the Sylvan Avenue area of Timperley might be advised to have a scout around.
There are still some berries left so may still be worth a quick look if you are in the area. Please note that the road leading to the huts is private and parking is not allowed.
