Coot 80 Little Grebe 3 The single Great Crested Grebe adult and 1 chick have been absent since 2nd Sep. Not good as the 2nd brood chick was only 1/2 grown and still dependent Mute Swan 2ad, 3 juv

Mute Swans now have 3 cygnets. One taken into care a couple of days ago (RSPCA?) Pair Great Crested Grebes still on nest c30 Swallows (many juvs) 8 House Martins 2 Sand Martins 3 Swifts

Pair of Mute Swans with all 4 cygnets surviving Great Cested Grebe pair are again sitting on eggs. No sign of the 2 well grown youngsters from the first brood. Presumably they have moved on. Coots - 45 including the darvic ringed individual (white ARD) Mallard 86 Grey Heron 1

6 Mute Swans (2ad, 4 young) 4 Great Crested Grebes (2ad, 2 young almost full sized) 59 Coots (31ad, 28 young) 42 Canada Geese (37ad, 5 young)
1 large Red-eared Terrapin, carelessly abandoned in Main Lake, which will probably make a meal of many of the young birds mentioned above.

Great Crested Grebe female carrying chicks but couldn't see how many. Mixed hirundine flock low over the water: 25 Sand Martins, 10 Swallows, 3 House Martins..

1st Great Crested Grebe of the year 7 Tufted Duck (4m, 3f) Buzzard sat in field opposite Main Lake
A drake Pochard on Main Lake was the first here for 15 months. Mixed flock of Redwings (c70) and Starlings (c50) in field opposite 3 Dippers downstream towards Marple Bridge

Coot ARD was ringed as an adult at Pennington Flash on 05/12/2012. This is the first confirmed sighting since.

Main Lake 99% frozen:
Coot numbers down to 74 but one, standing out on the ice, was ringed. This could be read courtesy of an on-the-spot photo by Mike Poole. Black lettering ARD on WHITE Darvic. I wonder how far it has travelled?
Other than that fairly quiet with 1 Little Grebe and 2 Mute Swans remaining but the only duck present was Mallard.
