Lots of PFG movements observed this morning.
At 08:40 while parked on Waterworks Lane I watched some PFG's approx 0.5m south of Winwick.
A skein of approx 200 flew over heading NW with groups of 140, 700+ and 110 heading SE at the same time in the same place. The latter three groups then merged and flew around in a huge circle three times, getting lower and lower. I thought they were going to land when they suddenly headed of SE, gaining height again. 900+ then headed back though here five mins later heading NW. So the big question is: was this two large groups going in opposite directions or have the birds that were initially heading SE turned around?
Also seen:
140+ heading SE approx 1 mile north of Winwick at 08:55.
120+ heading NW over J27 M6 at 10:45
85 and 13 heading NW over Waterworks Lane at 10:45 and 10:48.
200+ heading NW over Waterworks Lane at 11:00
120+ heading NW over Waterworks Lane (very low) at 11:16
280+ heading NE over Winwick at 15:00
I also seem to be having one of those purple patches at the moment where every time I leave the house I see something interesting. Hope this continues into 2009!

as always, the vast majority of records go towards the county bird report but in the more immediate future it is being collated for an article on the website, which i was keeping under my hat, until now! (sorry on smilies as my mobile wont allow them!)

Out of curiosity what will happen with all of this Pink Foot data from the thread that has been running since 28th September.
Incidently there are still lots and lots of birds on the marshes round the Ribble estuary, as might be expected at this time of year, before most of them head off east to the feeding grounds in the Norfolk area I believe.
