From either my front door, or bedroom window this morning, heard raven, saw mistle thrush, jay, sparrowhawk (flew from nearby roof into next door but one garden and disappeared!) and a single fieldfare. The latter was feeding on a rowan at eye level just 25 feet away. When you see one on its own like that, it almost feels like you're watching a rarity. Lots of the commoner stuff I expect to see also around. It was 'alive'.

Simon, I have had occasional Dunnock taking black sunflower seeds recently, from the Walkerwood feeder. They seemed move from the floor, to the "drip tray", then on to the feeder itself.

Just confirmed something that I had suspected for a couple of weeks now, a Dunnock has occasionally been taking sunflower hearts from a hanging feeder. It has been darting out of the hedge and quickly taking a seed and returning into cover. I initially thought I wasn't seeing this correctly it was happening so quickly but managed to get binoculars on it today. Suppose it has got used to picking spill up from below the feeders and just cut the middleman out. I've seen a Blackbird do this before but never a Dunnock.
Always nice to see something different even if it is just a feeding method.
