Thanks for the information all!! It's one of those places I passed loads of times and thought "that would be a good place for birds" and now I know it is!

Holly,
The pull-in that Brian mentions is very easy to miss whilst driving and it`s a fast dual-carriageway, so if I were you for your first visit I would park in Baysdale Avenue (which is the first RIGHT after the petrol station on your left), walk back and cross the A58 and after a short walk at the top of the brow is the stile & gate. The lodge can be seen to your left. As Ian says you can walk down the side of the tree line on your left to get nearer to the water. Once you know where the pull-in is (it`s only the gated entrance to the field) you can park there on your future visits...............have fun !

It is also worth pointing out that the footpath runs down the field very close to the hawthorn hedge so its best not to wander across the middle of the field, although others do.
A new site guide is currently in production.

hi holly, from the m61 junc 5 head towards bolton, at the traffic lights next to the petrol station turn left on the ring road, follow up hill, after aprox 1/4 mile the road levels of and there is a gate with a stile on your left with room to park, walk down to the res from there.
