Whilst on my way to Risley Moss yesterday (11.25am Sat 28th March) I noticed a flock of birds on telegraph wires near the Noggin Pub just past the prison. As I got closer and noticed they were Waxwings. I pulled up and watched them for 10 mins as they flew down to a berry bush in someones front garden. I counted 38 in total. A nice surprise but they weren't there on my way back at 12.45pm but plenty of berries still there.

17 this afternoon in Wigan town centre in a large Ash set in to the pavement of New Market Street by the 'Old Gas Showrooms' (Civic Building), where there are lots of berry-filled droppings on the pavement. Flew around the vicinity a few times and briefly visited the 2 tall Cotoneaster trees by Smiths on Mesnes Street.

Finally managed to catch up with these stunning birds at Pharmatube today after trying various locations all through winter!
First time I've ever seen them, there was a flock of at least 30 at 12:00 today, going back and forth between the trees directly outside and opposite Pharmatube. Moved to another tree a bit further down the road when people started coming out at lunchtime, but still good numbers around when I left at about 1:00pm.
Thanks to everyone for posting the locations on here - it finally paid off and was well worth the wait!!!

There are at least 5 berry trees in the area. One of the two at the end of Market Street (near the Cemertery gates) is still at least half full of berries. The Waxwings fed on these for a while but keep moving around. They are fairly easy to locate, however.

20 waxwings still trying to eat berries at Pharmatube. 4 trees still with berries. They first appeared at 10.20am and made several unsuccessful attempts to settle on the trees over the next hour. However office painters adjacent to the trees kept unsettling them. Look out for them in the tall trees to the left of and behind Pharmatube office building

Feeding on Rowans outside office entrance and in large trees across the road at 11.45am today. 15 seen at same location between 8am and 9am this morning. A lot of berries remaining on the trees so may stay around for a while if a couple of Mistle Thrushes don't give them too much aggravation.

l popped up to Gigg Lane this morning with Simon,10.30 ish.We had two flocks with a combined count of 45+.The resident Mistle Thrush was 'hopping mad' with the invasion and then two other Thrushes arrived, spoiling his Saturday morning completely. The brilliant views of the birds were very, very close and they were also feeding on a tree with tiny black berries next to the yellow berry tree.Stunning birds with amazing trilling vocals.... Just a word of warning, whilst as we know most of the non-birding public are inquisitive as to what birders are watching, but the berry tree on Market Street is outside a house where a young man and his friends were taking the p*ss out of Simon and l,so just be aware.

Delighted to have found two flocks of Waxwings this afternoon just off Gigg Lane,Bury.Opposite the gates of the cemetery is Market Street and the tree is on your right, quite laden with yellow berries. One flock of approx' 40 were in a tree behind and were frightened off by a Mistle Thrush and the second (slightly smaller) flock were circling around.Behind this tree, two streets away is Surrey Drive with a berry tree at the top and the bottom.Pleased to have finally seen these birds here as l've been watching this site for weeks....(another grin to add to my earlier one).

Waxwings now seem to have departed Plodder Lane (no sign at 3-45), No orange berries left and a few red berries left. We suspect they were there since sunday although I only found them monday 2pm. It was real pleasure to watch them at close quarters. They devoured the berries in possibly 5 days, the tree was heavy in berries. Would like to know how many they eat per day. Was amazing to see them take 2 or 3 berries while hovering, they seem to do this to get difficult ones. Role on the next ones, hope some more are found in GM before they all head back to Scandinavia.

10 birders & 64 Waxwings present this morning. It looks like we could have seen the last feeding frenzy. They have now eaten all the berries, great views of them all on the path and hedge below the bush eating all the dropped berries, they even ate some of the less appetising red berries in the adjacent tree. Then just after 10am, the flock flew up circled round a few times and flew off high towards Kearsley, that could be it? Four full days to strip the whole tree.

It was good to come across you Mike this morning. The dull weather meant that some poor shots were taken . However, luckily, after my hospital appointment at the Royal Bolton, the sun magically appeared and although the results are nowhere as good as those posted on this site by John Tymon, Adrian Dancy and many others, I am pleased with them. Many thanks to Simon Warford and others who not only found them in the first place but who have also kept us up to date.
