Hi all, As I've not birded in GM since July, I'm tempted to come down and do a sweep of GM sites early on Saturday morning starting with Audenshaw.
I'm sorry to labour the point, but just to be sure which is which at Audenshaw, am I correct in thinking that no.1 is the North-Easternmost water of the 3 please? Cheers, Mike P.

A flock of Linnets came down and we suspect the Twite may have flown off with them, although when T O'Mahoney came on he said that there were still some Linnets around. We had thrown some seed down, but the birds were getting disturbed by the dog walkers, and the flock was predominantly Mipit. The bird could still be around somewhere, Paul Wren and myself were watching it just before Iain arrived.
Also Golden Plover over with two Lapwings.

Twite was present at 3.50, unfortunately for me though no positive sighting, many of the Mipits seemed to have disappeared, apparently disturbed by the dog walkers. The Twite may well still be there especially with the heavy downpour which got me before I had time to leave the site.
Still some good birds on even so.

Late afternoon
Barwit still present, a dog ran towards it and the bird took off, it dragged it's legs through the water before landing again on the stone work. It then seemed to take a few sips of water before dipping it's bill in the water and preening, it did this several times before walking back to the grass bank. I noticed a few dogwalkers along the bank but when I left the bird was back happily feeding.
I found I'd missed 2 Pintail this morning which were seen by T O'Mahoney, the Wigeon which were also there this morning had also left.
2 drake Pochard were present Also an increase in the number of Goldeneye with 5 present, 3 of which were sub adult males

Glad that the bird returned for others to connect with. It would have been interesting to know where it was going to when it went missing, as I'm sure it wasn't on any of the three reservoirs. The last time I saw it, it would appear to have flown in from the south side of No2 an area I'd searched only 2mins earlier. Over the years I have seen a Ruff and a Whimbrel on the covered reservoir so it might have been going on there.

Quite a relief to read that it had done a disappearing act in the morning, Vic. I gave all 3 reservoirs a thorough search from 13.30 - 15.00 but no sight of it. The disturbance levels this afternoon were the worst I've experienced here. There were swarms of workers with grasscutters, strimmers, industrial mowers and large grass cutting tractors, which were cutting the slopes as near to the water line as they could get, plus the usual assortment of dog walkers along the water's edge, so I wasn't surprised at not finding it. All 3 reservoirs were affected, I wonder where it went?
I was amazed to hear of its return and made it down this evening in time to see it (thanks Iain for keeping the dog walkers off)
Cheers, John
