I see BGs report 15 at Chorlton WP on the NE side this morning. Any details anyone ? Surely must relate to the same flock ?

Pete reports that the Chorlton birds (along with many further north) were flycatching not feeding on berries.
Presumably this is down to their early arrival and they still are feeding as they would on the breeding grounds.

The Drive-in next to Tesco's, but no sign of them in the vicinity this afternoon. Also checked Cromford Street by The Grange which is where the big influx happened. Plenty of berries and other berry-eaters (Starlings, 2 each of Mistle Thrush & Blackbird) but no Waxwings

You are right Judith there are lots of berry bushes along there. Also lots of berries along Regent Rd. I was scanning these as I sat in traffic here. Worth keeping an eye out here over the next few days and weeks if anyone travels that way to work. Frustratingly, obviously couldn't stop on motorway so could be more!

Another site used in the past, Steve. One was seen dead on the carriageway, if I remember aright - probably about 10 years ago. Lots of berry-bearing bushes there.

Derker was the location for the really big influx a decade or so ago. That started with a few and built to more than a hundred before it was widely reported - mostly because the first report to the Oldham Chronicle was greeted with "In Derker? Don't be silly!"

The original post complete with directions was posted on another thread called Waxwings. That thread has been closed as there are umpteen Waxwings threads and all posts are to be put on this thread. It is halfway down page 2 of the sightings thread. But don't worry as they have not been seen today!

Hi all,
could I ask that if anyone has any Waxwing sightings over the next few days they could let me know on my mobile 'phone number. It can be found on the 'who's who' page on the website.
A friend and photographer from Saudi is over (check out his marvellous images on the 'out-of-country' gallery) and is very keen on photographing some, so any inofrmation would be very greatly appreciated indeed.
Cheers,

About 40 today at Ruskin Crescent Abram, nr junction with Simpkin St, and on 10th 8 birds on a telegraph pole, where I think the 40 were, too. I got an email from the BTO about these - the householder Mr Berry had phoned them in - but by the time I got there (it's quite near me) they'd gone.

At least 22 this evening in a line of 6 trees at the entrance to the Travelodge Hotel on Windsor Road, Werneth at 17.00 tonight. The birds were driven off fairly quickly by the local pair of magpies and flew off over the hotel towards the Oldham by-pass. The line of flight suggests that they MAY be roosting in conifers on the site of former Avant/Perriquito hotel, as I suspected with the birds at Oldham College last November/December.
Can't identify the species of tree; a rather untidy Lombardy Poplar type with red berries (limited nos left) and dark red catkins
A nice find almost on my doorstep
