Until yesterday I don't think I've ever recorded PFG's flying over here in this direction. Interesting. Have they found a short-cut to Norfolk across the Peak District ?
In addition Pete, this year is the first year in 6 years recording the birds on my patch (a few miles south of Chorlton WP at Hale Barns) that Pink-footed Geese have been seen here. I used to think that the Mersey deflected birds east and onto the moors but this year they've struggled on south a bit more before heading east. This of course could be coincidence, I don't really know why!

Biggest movement noted over Romiley so far this winter.
c350 at 11.07 seen from hill just north of Sunfield estate where I live. Then at 12.05 and a minute later, flocks of c300 & c350 were viewed from outside my front door. The first skein was right overhead, the second just to the west. Helped break up the gardening routine. The second lot were probably those seen by Chris Roberts earlier.
One question. There was no wind today, and visibility was fine, so why were they flying so low? Nice to see so many anyhow.

55 went east over Skitters Wood, Ashton-in-Makerfield this morning at 0818hrs, before the skein broke up somewhat and then veered northwards. The skies were clear to the west from where they had flown, but to the east and south-east was very heavy, dark cloud - presumably the geese had second thoughts about heading for Norfolk?
