flock at Victoria rd/ramsbottom road had moved down to thr trees outside the RMI by 9am. I counted 24 but there were probably a few in a tree just out of sight. Brilliant birds. A first for me after many years of getting to a site just too late.

*possible* group of 10 waxwings seen/heard from Mossley railway station this morning. They flew overhead, circled around a bit and then flew off in the direction of Stalybridge while I was waiting on the platform for (delayed) train. I couldn't tell from looking at them, but they certainly sounded right (I've been swotting up on my waxwing calls recently!).

Not at all Joey. The message and its timing was by pure coincidence to yours and wasn't meant to suggest anything in relation to your post. It was as sent to me by the observer (word for word) and he was totally unaware of your post.

I have to say that i didn't notice any starlings with the waxwings at the time, but i could be wrong and i didn't have my bins on me. I am pretty certain that all the birds were waxwings when they were sitting in the tree right above me but if you want a bit more clarity or info Ian then PM me by all means

c.35 waxwings around horwich leisure centre today at 1.30pm, switching between some of the larger trees next to the car park and smaller trees (which i assume contained berries) in the estate of houses next to the centre (to the side of the astro-turf). Quite nervous, though they didn't seem want to leave the area in a hurry but i couldn't relocate at 4.00pm. Am i right in thinking this is the biggest single flock recorded in the county this year? Any how a lifer for me!

There are a lot of berries - albeit ornamental type - in adjacent Ramsbottom Road, so if it was on a scouting mission, there could be plenty of Waxwings in that area very soon.

2 birds were still present when I left at 11.30. Old Hall Drive, Offerton is by St John's Church on A626 (Marple Road) and the birds were feeding in Hillcroft on berries but also flycatching from TV arials to take insects. As usual 2-3 Mistle Thrushes were giving them a hard time.
This is a traditional site and not far from another site at Hall Street so both areas are worth keeping an eye on.

Don't forget that sightings of Waxwings between 1/11/10 and 28/2/11 will be very worthwhile additions for the BTO wintering atlas project. For more info and to log your roving sightings. Just a quick reminder that anyone and everyone is able to submit roving records towards the project Many thanks
Keep atlasing!

Pete when I read that report I immediately thought they had mixed up chorlton park and added water to it to make it chorlton water park, at the time a bunch of us were in chorlton park looking and the fact they mentioned N.E. made me think this was true, after all if someone posted about the water park surely they would have said on kenworthy or on the old tip etc not N.E. which was as the original chorlton park sighting was listed.
As soon as the page came in I drove over to the water park but the board said the waxwings were where we just came from and a quick search around was fruitless.
Only my opinion but I searched both areas for a well over two hours in total with a bored 7yr old in tow whinging he's going to miss halloween!
