The flock of 60+ Waxwings at the lower end of Ramsbottom Road, Horwich, went flyabout as I arrived at 13.45, splitting into two distinct groups. As I walked up the road a Sparrowhawk glided down just above the roof tops, so maybe that had spooked them.
When I returned 15 minutes later, about a dozen were back in the top of an ash tree, from where they were doing quite a bit of flycatching.

Waxwings in Bolton this afternoon:
55+ at Junction of Bridgeman Street & Fletcher street. 26 along Weston Street, ranging from Rishton lane junction right to the other end near Nelson street where they were eating just a few berries that remained, being chased off by Mistle thrushes. Birds were fairly mobile.

Hi everyone, I have been following the movements of waxings via this site for several weeks. I have been to tops for tiles and castle st in Bolton regularly but no sitings for me. Today I went to victoria road horwich at 8.20 and finally saw 53 waxwings!!! They were amazing and worth the wait to finally see them. I felt a bit of a geek setting up my telescope in the street but I let a local couple have a look through it and was rewarded with a cup of coffee which was greatly appreciated as it was freezing. I couldnt resist nipping back at about 10.00 to get some photos. ( thanks to the guy who gave me the photography advice!) I thought I would send this first post just to say thank you to all who have posted on here about the waxwings in the Bolton area.

Glad you saw them Ken, they flew off just as we arrived at about 10.15am
However, we had a really nice walk around Lower Rivington res, and saw 5 Goosander, but were rewarded when we returned to the Arboretum. A flock of Waxwings were flitting from tree to tree a few hundred yards from the carpark. About 25. I managed to get some acceptable video footage, and Malc. managed to be under a tree when they landed.
Lovely country "up there", helped by the blue sky.

Anybody know the last time waxwings have previously been seen in Little Lever? I know I saw some in the mid 90s outside an old peoples home when I was getting of a bus. The reason I ask is that I am going to post the local little lever forum, ask people to keep look out. Know a few would be interested to know about the waxwings.
