Just a single Dunlin & Ringed Plover early this evening. Was dissapointed to see 2 fishermen on the right hand island, when I pointed out to them that birds were breeding on these islands and they had plenty of other areas around the lodge to fish that do not hold breeding birds they were not interested and only went on to tell me that the water is now so low they are running out of suitable deep water to fish. They clearly had no intention of moving and told me to be quiet as i was disturbing the fish!
Just gettin really fed up with folk at the moment, suppose made worse by spending a week in bird friendly Hungary where they respect and are indeed proud of the birdlife they have.

Nice one Simon!! I am sure the anglers (myself inclluded) would be delighted with your suggestion, especially as they pay £70 each for the chance to access Rumworth and already resent the fact that they cannot now fish quite a large area, and that birders pay nothing. The conservation area is a fairly recent change (about 15 years and the club have had the fishing rights for over 100years). Interestingly, I fished the match yesterday and the waders seemed to take it all in their stride, constantly flying around and calling and feeding quite close to the anglers..Also there are no "designated pegs" Anglers are free to fish anywhere except beyond the islands. Matches are only held once a week at the most and the birds have it to themselves for the rest of the time. I spend a lot of my time putting the birders point of view to fellow anglers but would risk being lynched if I suggested not fishing the Beaumont road side. I.m sure you were not serious Simon, but just thought I would put a case for the other side. See you soon.

Pete, we popped in this afternoon and there were already several fishermen down the side, wish they would fish on the far side on the designated areas. Obviously not much to report apart from a flock of 9 Ringed Plover which flew in during a ridiculous hail storm!
