Sadly a Bittern hit the wires above Pearson's Flash on 19th June, and sustained a badly broke wing. A local person found it and it was taken to RSPCA Stapeley Grange wildlife hospital, where it had to be put to sleep.
Cetti's - apparently they stop singing in July and August. It did survive the fun day, next to its preferred haunt, on 7th June but to the best of my knowledge has not been heard or seen since 9th. Maybe it has moved to yet another part of the flashes complex - there is plenty of choice!

Found 16 Greylags, the hybrid, and the pinkfoot + a large flock of cattle including bulls (sign on stile warning of these) but no egret. However, that field does go a long way back and is undulating, and the egret could have been there but I wasn't going to get involved with the cattle!

There is a public footpath from Bryn Gates Lane (signposted Police Station from the A58 at Bamfurlong on a bend). You can drive down to some cottages opposite a small wood, and then on foot (as there is a gate across the road) through a farm, then down by the side of Park Brook Farm. This is a public footpath so don't be put off by any local opposition! Keep to the footpath and it gives a reasonable overview of the surrounding fields. At a point near the new lake, it turns right and continues parallel to the canal, and eventually brings you out on the A58 again just a little higher up than the turning onto Bryn Gates Lane. Some of the fields are rape, but some should have cattle in them by now.
