Flock of ~100 Skylark between farms & reserve, also a few on trerritories only 1 Buzzard ~25 Lapwing on territorries & displaying nicely
3 Curlew flying W end of reserve; also 1 heard E end of reserve
There had been 2 male Stonechat there too, but seem to have gone now

A walk from back of The Raven over the Glaze and down to Little Woolden Moss and back was interesting, the following birds seen in the G M C part of the walk. Plenty of Chaffinch Blue and Great Tits ,and a singing Nutatch 3 Corn Buntings, 3 Yellowhammers 8 Lapwing Stock Dove, Wood Pigeon Sparrowhawk,Buzzard 20 Teal,12 Gadwall, Tufted Duck,several Mallard and 4 Goosander on the river. 5 Redwing a few Blackbirds , 3 Pied Wagtails,
and several singing Skylarks .

Plus Habitat loss galore along route to Moss...a big push by the district to tidy up...commendable though it is there seems to be an equation that says BRAMBLE IS BAD and must be 'tidied away'...hence today one of the richest wildlife habitats in bramble for all it supports has been removed from a site that has held a healthy population of House Sparrow for years...it was always nice to hear them as I passed by...but 'tidy' seems not to understand that wildlife prefer a tangle...the sad irony being in all the laudable reports of the positive efforts all have made to remove the rubbish...that this is being done' 'for the wildlife'''

Plenty singing Reed Bunting and Skylark, plus displaying Lapwing
Saker (type) falcon flew low and purposefully across the moss heading north, with jessies clearly visible. It then circled the wind turbine at Light Oaks Farm a couple of times and then carried on fast NW.

145 Lapwing ...2 in display...my life in birdwatching recycles itself once more...their display got me into this 'way of life' as FRH remarked to me some time after my first meeting him....all those decades ago... I asked of him and Les Baird..."are you bird spotters"...his eventual reply being as I spoke with him and Les Baird over my early birdwatching years...its not a Hobby its a way of life...my only regret is the FACT that wildlife has declined so much in my all too brief fading decades...and in noting in my area 'port Barton' has just now had all its Grasshopper Warbler/Sedge Warbler/Whitethroat habitat and much more bulldozed away...and over in Partington a sweep of land has been destroyed of late for housing...I despair...but my aged eye still 'lit' to the delight of seeing these Lapwing in display....even these might not succeed in bringing renewal for this once Lapwing bastion of life is now a winter wheat area and as such might not allow them to to breed ....last year as the Winter Wheat was low they looked as if they might succeed...until their nests were rolled....but this is where WE as birdwatchers are today....

Plenty singing Reed Bunting and Skylark, plus displaying Lapwing
Saker (type) falcon flew low and purposefully across the moss heading north, with jessies clearly visible. It then circled the wind turbine at Light Oaks Farm a couple of times and then carried on fast NW.

3 Avocets came in from the east and circled high over the pools at 09:50, calling all the while, before eventually heading off west
2 Redshank with 1 Black-tailed Godwit down on the western pools, flew off west when the Avocets circled and departed

145 Lapwing ...2 in display...my life in birdwatching recycles itself once more...their display got me into this 'way of life' as FRH remarked to me some time after my first meeting him....all those decades ago... I asked of him and Les Baird..."are you bird spotters"...his eventual reply being as I spoke with him and Les Baird over my early birdwatching years...its not a Hobby its a way of life...my only regret is the FACT that wildlife has declined so much in my all too brief fading decades...and in noting in my area 'port Barton' has just now had all its Grasshopper Warbler/Sedge Warbler/Whitethroat habitat and much more bulldozed away...and over in Partington a sweep of land has been destroyed of late for housing...I despair...but my aged eye still 'lit' to the delight of seeing these Lapwing in display....even these might not succeed in bringing renewal for this once Lapwing bastion of life is now a winter wheat area and as such might not allow them to to breed ....last year as the Winter Wheat was low they looked as if they might succeed...until their nests were rolled....but this is where WE as birdwatchers are today....

and a number of Dog walkers with their dogs off lead on the 'wildlife' Reserve....if only the Dog owners had been taught to read at school...perhaps the 'Dogs on Leads' within the LWT signage might have given them a clue that 'wildlife' does not quite co-exist with being constantly disturbed....
