The dead pike is a bit of a mystery as all the pike were removed last time the reservoir was emptied, and as far as I am aware none has been seen or caught since. It could be that an angler with an interest in pike fishing has slipped one or two in unofficially. Usually if there are pike in a water you see the signs, fry scattering etc. but I have never seen any signs in spite of spending hundreds of hours by the waterside.

Whimbrel - first heard calling then it did the decent thing and dropped onto the mud. Black Tailed Godwits - 11 all but 1 still in fine plumage Common Tern - a noteworthy gathering of 23 (including 11 juvs) mainly resting on far side. 2 smart looking drake Ringed Teals. Redshank 2 Common Sand 2 LRP 21 (majority juvs passing through) Oystercatcher 12 Common Tern 3 ad+3 juv Linnet 4 Tufted with 7 ducklings.
Water level almost as low as I have ever seen it, the last time it was like this 4 Little Stints & 7 Ruff were present in Sept 1996, them were the days.

2 mute swans dropped in, still there when I left. 3 common tern ringed plover flock of 200+ starlings feeding on newly mown field. plus usual
water level lower than for years (for June) and mud areas now baked hard.
