Late morning - in the air over Barton Grange garden centre at Woodford - which I think is just inside the GM recording area! - separately, a Buzzard and a Sparrowhawk - both being pestered by corvids.
Also small parties of Redwings passing over.
These sightings made for a welcome respite from looking at fancy christmas decorations and from sniffing "christmas scented" candles (whatever smell that may be! - sprouts possibly?). A sprout scented candle - can't really see that one catching on!!
Cheers,
Bill.

a goldcrest flew into my kitchen Sat morning. not something you see everyday. it took a few mins to get it out, so it was a bit traumatised and sat on the wall outside for a short while. but it had gone about 5 minutes later. hopefully flown away and not eaten by a local cat.
party of approx 10 goldcrest on skitters grove, ashton. (off low bank road)

Unusual sighting over Liverpool Street in Salford today.
A Large female Sparrowhawk tried to land on the gasometer which upset a 60+ strong flock of Starlings which settle there during the day. The Starlings attacked and chased the hawk all over the EMR scrapyard and my workplace across the road. They eventually chased it all the way up to Oldfield Road then most of the very vocal Starlings returned to the gasometer.

sorry paul, no points for raven i'm afraid. As mainly a resident species in the county and one that roams widely there is no way of keeping track of individuals and cross-counting (re-counting of the same individual) would be widespread. I regularly see ravens around the chat and irlam mosses and they're probably the same birds every time, especially as they breed locally, same as those around carrington, horwich, ludworth etc.
Cheers
