Bittern at Ramsdales reedbed flew across at 0930 then showed well briefly at about 10. Still in reeds opposite leaning post on mini point to right but not showing currently. (10.15) Later about 11 it was visible in the open and in full sun distantly from Ramsdale's Hide, on the shore of the "island" beyond the long lagoon, well to the right from the hide. It then flew back over, probably towards the main Ramsdale's Reedbed. Possible observation points would be Ramsdale's Hide, the Leaning Posts by the reedbed, or just beyond the gate walking towards the Point, as you get to the lagoon, where you can look back at Rammies Reedbed shoreline.

Just thought that I would clear the "Hoopoe situation" up
This seems to be a genuine misunderstanding rather than a hoax, apparently the bird was photographed in UAE and posted on a Leigh facebook group. It seems that I got the photos and info fourth hand, when I thought it was third hand. Chris Done passed the info to me in good faith and I posted the info in good faith on the forum.
